The Council has created a Mentoring Award Program for
young scientists in their graduate training programs (PhDs or
for MDs who are in their Fellowship Training) in all fields of clinical
and basic science. There will be up to three travel awards for the
winning Mentees to have funding to cover or defray the expenses of at
least a one week visit to a chosen SEBM Member's Laboratory for an
opportunity for a firsthand experience to expand the trainee's
educational scope.
Questionnaire/Application Form
The attached questionnaire/application is for a
1. Mentor who must be a Member, Member Emeritus of SEBM
or non SEBM Member who will apply for membership in the SEBM to
request that a graduate student or a clinical fellow who wins the award
(Mentee) visit his/her laboratory for one week and he/she takes on
the responsibly to mentor and supervise the Mentee during the visit to
his/her laboratory, and for a
2. Graduate student or clinical fellow to apply for
funding to visit a Mentor's Laboratory to gain further exposure to
research in their chosen field of interest. Applicants must be SEBM
members. You may complete the membership application
form online.
Each Mentee applicant must include two letters of
recommendation with the submission of the completed application form.
One of the letters must be from the Director of the Mentee's Training
Program Director or in the case of a PhD candidate this letter must be
from the PhD advisor. Ideally an additional third letter is requested
from the potential Mentor.
